Mayor Of Clare Calls For Community Service For Those Caught Dumping

The Mayor of Clare is calling on the government to introduce laws which would see those caught illegally dumping being forced to carry out community service.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe believes the current rules are too lenient on anyone who is found to be responsible for dumping on roadsides and in public spaces.

As things stand, those caught are liable for fines of up to €5,000 but despite this as a deterrent, there seems to be no let-up in rural parts of Clare in terms of the level of rubbish left behind.
