Endangered turtle washes up on West Clare beach

 

A marooned loggerhead turtle, normally found off the West Coast of Africa, is being rehabilitated in West Clare after washing up on Doughmore beach.

The turtle, which is believed to be a young male, was discovered on the beach facing Doonbeg Golf Club in a comatose state and suffering from hypothermia.

It’s an endangered species and it’s believed it got lost from its feeding routes around Cape Verde and drifted up to Ireland.

It has been christened Imerceach or Little Migrant and is being treated at Lahinch Seaworld where it will remain for several months before being returned to its native Azores.
