A crane has now entered the water at Arklow pier in Co. Wicklow – in the effort to retrieve a car which plunged into the Avoca River early this morning.
A man in his 30s – who was in the car at the time is still missing – while a woman in her 20s, managed to escape from the vehicle and raise the alarm – just after 6 this morning.

She’s now been taken to Loughlinstown Hospital for treatment – but her condition is unknown.
Gardaí say they hope the man’s body may be still in the car.
