Man In His 70’s Hospitalised Following Sixmilebridge House Fire

An elderly man has been treated in hospital following a fire at his farmhouse in East Clare.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at a cottage in Sixmilebridge this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 6 o’clock this morning, after a fire ignited in a cottage in Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge.

Two units of Clare County Fire Service from Shannon responded to the scene, along with National Ambulance Service paramedics and Gardaí.

A man in his late 70s managed to escape from the property and was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where he was treated for suspected smoke inhalation, but was later discharged.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally and caused substantial damage to the property.
