Major Search Overnight In Galway Bay For Two Missing Young Women

A major search has continued through the night for two people feared missing in Galway Bay.

The alarm was raised at around 9.00pm last night when it was reported that two people on a paddle-boards were missing at sea. It’s understood they are a teenage girl and a woman in her 20s.

The Galway RNLI lifeboat began a search near Furbo in Galway, while later the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat was dispatched as well as the Costello Bay and Doolin units of the Coast Guard to search their respective coastlines and the wider bay.

Both the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115 and Rescue 118 from Sligo were also scrambled to carry out a search of the bay. The search is continuing this morning.
