A Clonlara resident is calling on the powers that be take notice of the “life-threatening” floods surrounding their homes and ensure it never happens again.
The ESB has been releasing 400 tonnes of water per second from the Parteen Weir since yesterday, which coupled with persistent rainfall, has resulted in water levels rising by around two inches in Springfield overnight.
One house has already become engulfed by floodwaters, while ten more remain at risk.
Clare County Council is to lodge a fresh planning application next month to construct flood defences there, following a number of delays that have hit the project in recent years.
Springfield resident Gerardine Quinlivan has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that water levels are on the verge of matching 2015 levels, when floodwaters last got into their homes.
