Clonlara Resident Calls On Powers That Be To Take Notice Of “Life-Threatening Floods”

A Clonlara resident is calling on the powers that be take notice of the “life-threatening” floods surrounding their homes and ensure it never happens again.

The ESB has been releasing 400 tonnes of water per second from the Parteen Weir since yesterday, which coupled with persistent rainfall, has resulted in water levels rising by around two inches in Springfield overnight.

One house has already become engulfed by floodwaters, while ten more remain at risk.

Clare County Council is to lodge a fresh planning application next month to construct flood defences there, following a number of delays that have hit the project in recent years.
