Its day seven on the campaign trail and transport, among other issues has been dominating debate locally.

This is in light of these comments from Green Party leader Eamon Ryan, on the planned M20 Limerick-Cork motorway.

Fianna Fáil election candidate Rita McInerney is among those arguing that the road is vital for this region, with better access boosting business in the West and South, and allowing the region act as a counter pole to Dublin.

The Doonbeg businesswoman says the Midwest region can’t afford any more delays, let alone losing the project altogether.

A motion is to be brought before the next meeting of Clare County Council, which is one of four across the country, that have so far agreed to discuss the issue.

Trudy Leydon says national legislation can make a huge difference.
