A West Clare autism specialist insists autism support services in Ireland need an entire root and branch review as a matter of urgency.

According to figures released in the Dáil, there are currently 41 classes available for autistic children in schools in Clare.

In addition, Budget 2020 provides for an additional 1,064 Special Needs Assistant posts and 400 new special education teacher posts next year.

But Miltown Malbay native Dr Susan Crawford says there are still shortages and it’s not going to be easy to address.
