As of the end of August, there were 4,547 people across the Banner County claiming some form of unemployment benefit.

That marks an overall drop of 166 in the space of a month, with the biggest drop of 82 coming in the Ennis area, and marginal drops of 32, 14 and 39 in North, West and East Clare respectively.

It’s also a very welcome decrease of around 600 on the numbers on the live register this time last year.

In fact, across the past ten years, there has been only two months in total that have seen live register figures lower than the current level – namely May and June of this year.
