Clare Haulier Criticises Government Plan To Increase Diesel Costs

A prominent Clare haulier has criticised the government’s plans to increase the costs of diesel, saying it could prove very damaging for his industry.

The plans were contained in the government’s Climate Change Action Plan, which makes no reference to freight transport, and Eugene Drennan of Spa Transport in Ennis says any changes need to be phased in order to ease the strain on his sector.

He is also calling for a rebate to be offered to hauliers who drive modern trucks with the cleanest of technologies.
