16% Drop In Car Sales In Clare

There’s been a 16% drop in new car sales in Clare in the first four months of the year.

The latest figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show there has been 1,491 new car registrations between January and April, compared to 1,780 in the same period last year.

It’s one of the most significant drops in the country, with only Carlow, Kildare, Leitrim, Longford and Offaly taking a higher hit to sales.

Despite this, car sales nationally grew in April, though Director General of the SIMI, Brian Cooke says that’s just a matter of timing, and he fears further challenges are coming down the line for the industry.
