€550,000 For Post-Storm Road Repairs In Clare

An additional 550-thousand euro is be given to Clare County Council for the repair of regional and local roads damaged by storms.

Extreme weather events, including Storm Emma last March, prompted concerns for the network across the country.

The National Oversight and Audit Commission recently found that 80 per cent of Clare’s regional roads have some level a defect, and the situation has likely worsened in the wake of weather events such as Storm Emma and this summer’s heatwave.

In response, the Department of Transport has now announced an additional 15 million euro for road repairs.

A further 3 million is being given to Transport Infrastructure Ireland to maintain national routes.

Clare will receive €550,000, while by contrast Galway County Council has been granted €1,100,000.

Limerick City & County Council has received €650,000 and €814,000 has been announced for Tipperary County Council.
