Double Jobs Blow For Shannon

Shannon has been hit with two significant jobs blows today.

It’s been confirmed that 100 jobs are to go at a medical journals publishing company in East Park, Shannon.

Elsevier are to make 100 out of their 108 staff redundant in a two-and-a-half year period from April of next year.

A spokesman for the company says it will actively work with staff to help them secure alternative employment.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed earlier that 107 staff are to be let go from Shannon Aerospace.

The staff were briefed on the matter this morning and were told that the majority of the job losses, 64, are to come in the administration area.

This includes planning, engineering, logistics and human resources.

20 jobs are to be lost among management and production technicians, with the remaining 3 to go from senior management.

Shannon Aerospace opened in 1989, and a spokesman for the company has called today the most difficult in it’s history but insisted that it does have a ‘robust future’ in County Clare.
