Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD is calling on the likely next Taoiseach to reverse a decision to cut staffing at a community development organisation in Newmarket on Fergus.

Obair provides training and education supports, a creche and a meals on wheels service, and Deputy Timmy Dooley says it has done this with up to 20 staff in recent years.

However, this year it has been awarded funding for one manager, and 14.5 Full-time equivalent staff, a decision defended by Leo Varadkar in a letter to Deputy Dooley sent in February.

The East Clare TD wants this decision reversed, and wants Clare’s Fine Gael Oireachtas members, who support Minister Varadkar, to put pressure on him.
