Disappointment At Shelving Of Plans For Minimum Passing Distance For Cyclists

Disappointment is being expressed in Clare after plans for a minimum passing distance for cars overtaking cyclists have been shelved.

The proposal would have meant drivers would be required to leave a distance of at least 1.5 metres when passing out a cyclist.

But Minister Shane Ross says these rules would be unenforceable, with the new Road Traffic Bill making it dangerous overtaking an offence, without specifying a minimum distance.
