Disappointment after Transport Minister rules out extra road funding.

 

Engineers at the Clare County Council have expressed disappointment with news that no extra funding will be provided for road damage caused by the Big Freeze.

As council crews begin tackling damaged roads surfaces and potholes on local and main roads following the cold snap, the Transport Minister Noel Dempsey has dashed hopes for much needed funding by insisting there’ll be no extras.

Road allocations for the year are to be made to local authorities at the end of this month, but Minister Dempsey says they’re already decided and councils are always advised to keep some funds aside for weather related problems.
