A decision is due on a planning application for works to address long-term traffic issues at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon.

The controversial traffic black spot has long been the source of problems for locals and visitors, as it is on the main route to the Cliffs of Moher.

Clare County Council lodged a Part 8 planning application in January for works to address the persistent issues at Blake’s Corner, at the junction of the Lahinch Road and the main Ennis Road.

The plan would see the development of an Inner Relief Road in the town.

It would include a new vehicular bridge crossing of the Inagh River, which would be around 80 metres upstream of the existing crossing there.

The overall route would run from a point 170 metres south east of Blake’s Corner on the Inagh to Ennistymon Road, to one 180 metres west of the corner on the Ennistymon to Lahinch Road.

The existing bridge would also be pedestrianised and a roundabout would be included at the Western end of the proposed new bridge.

The plan also includes the controversial demolition of three properties, which has been a sticking point in the ongoing engagement with the local community on the plans.

A manager’s report will be compiled and presented to councillors.

Clare County Council says it will be heard on the April agenda.
