An East Clare village that’s waited 30 years for critical sewerage infrastructure is to be included in a pilot scheme, which will see a shovel ready project finally come to fruition.

Following a meeting with TDs and Senators, the Minister for Housing has committed to devising a scheme, which will provide funding for infrastructure in rural villages that currently are outside Irish Water’s investment programmes.

Minister Darragh O’Brien has also pledged that Broadford will be one of the villages in this county that will be included in this scheme and there’ll also be scope for Clare County Council to also put forward other priority villages.

Meanwhile, plans to improve infrastructure in the villages of Broadford, Coolin, Cooraclare and Carrigaholt have been raised in the Seanad today by Clare’s Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway.

In response, Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, Peter Burke says the issue of wastewater infrastructure in villages not serviced by Irish Water is being examined by a working group, which will issue a report in 2021.

Minister Burke has told the Seanad that he believes the matter will be prioritised next year.
