Security Restrictions In Place In Clare Ahead Of Trump Visit

Road restrictions are already in place around Doonbeg in Clare ahead of this week’s visit by US President Donald Trump.

Gardaí have revealed details of their security operation, and say while there will be some traffic disruption, they will look to minimise the impact on the public.

Gardaí say any traffic restrictions for the Presidential visit will be kept to a minimum and their hope is that it won’t impact greatly on normal traffic.

Shannon town will remain open for business, with no significant disruption expected there.

Additional security checks and Garda presence are ongoing within the environs of Shannon Airport, while no on street parking is allowed anywhere within the Airport environs except in designated areas.

Passengers are also advised to allow extra travel time, as additional security measures will be in place on the approach road until Friday.

All visitors to the airport during the visit are advised to have photo ID.

Protests will be facilitated and Gardaí will make every effort to minimise disruption to the community and patrons of Shannon Airport.

In Doonbeg, access to the village is not restricted and it remains open for business as normal.

Trump International Golf Links and Hotel is closed to the public from today.

Access along the N67, between Clonadrum Cross and Doonbeg is already restricted, with diversions in place.

Residents inside the N67 diversion route will be permitted through with passes, photo ID and proof of address.

Temporary rolling road closures will also be expected on the M18, N18, N19, N85, N68, N67 also through Ennis and Limerick City.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are also urging Leaving and Junior Cert students, particularly in Doonbeg and Shannon, to give extra travel time this week to get to their exams, which begin on Day One of the visit.
