Sean Kelly Concerned Over Delay In Being Ratified An MEP

Fine Gael’s Sean Kelly has described as worrying, the fact that he and the other MEPs for Ireland South, may not be formally ratified by the time the European parliament resumes sittings in July.

A full recount is taking place in the constituency from Tuesday, at the request of Sinn Féin, as only 327 votes separate their candidate Liadh Ní Riada and the Green Party’s Grace O’Sullivan.

MEP here won’t be able to take their seat until the process is finished, and that’s expected to take 28 days and cost 1 million euro.

Sean Kelly, who topped the poll, says that while he can understand the need to call for the re-count, the impact the delay could have is concerning.
