Rural Depopulation “Biggest Existential Threat” To West Clare

Concern is being expressed that rural depopulation is the biggest existential threat to West Clare.

It follows the announcement that Cross National School is to close – the second primary school on the Loop Head Peninsula to shut its doors in recent months.

In both cases, a lack of pupil numbers has been blamed and it’s led to concern in some areas about the effect of depopulation on their communities.
