The future of Clare Bus looks to be secure, after it was awarded the contract to continue to operate twelve routes across the county.

They were recently put out to tender by the National Transport Authority, but now Clare Accessible Transport, which operates the service, has been announced as the successful bidder.

The contract, which begins on January 13th, is for one year, with a roll over option for a second year.

Chairperson of Clare Bus, Ger Hoey says the news come as a relief, but he believes that much of the stress over the past year could have been avoided.

Clare’s Independent TD, meanwhile, is calling on the NTA to release funding earmarked for Clare Bus with immediate effect.

Funding to the tune of 200,000 euro was set aside last July, but only 61,000 of that has been lodged with the provider to date, to secure services into January.

Dr Michael Harty is urging the National Transport Authority to pay the balance as soon as possible.
