The multi-million euro redevelopment planned at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is subject to planning approval and funding from Fáilte Ireland.

Shannon Heritage has applied to Clare County Council for what would be the largest investment at Bunratty since it first opened its doors to the public 56 years ago.

The castle itself dates back to 1425, while the folk park has been a popular attraction since its development too.

The proposal includes plans to deliver the first ever 4D 270 degree tourist experience in Ireland, which would see a new building constructed where visitors would enjoy a sensory immersive experience upon arrival at Bunratty.

The 19th century village in the folk park is also set for a facelift, should approval be received.

In a statement on the development, Shannon Heritage says the new Bunratty Castle will create a major attraction of scale on the Wild Atlantic Way

It goes on to say it would help build on the 400,000 visitors already coming there annually.
