A petition has been launched in an effort to increase pressure on the Government to ensure a community office in Shannon is kept open.

The Citizens Advice Centre, which has been operating in Shannon for almost 40 years and caters for 36,000 people annually, is facing closure in seven weeks time due to funding cuts.

Clarecare says its continuing to explore other possible funding streams in an effort to retain aspects of the vital service.

The Love Shannon Group has hit out over the potential closure and one of it’s members Niamh O’Callaghan says its more than just an advice centre.
