Air Force 2 will make the short journey from Shannon to Dublin this morning.

US Vice President Mike Pence will meet with President Michael D Higgins at the Arás before heading to Farmleigh to meet the Taoiseach.

Leo Varadkar says he wants ‘spell out’ the consequences of Brexit for Ireland to Vice President Pence, in the hope that the message will get back to the US administration.

Late Yesterday afternoon, Vice President Pence and his wife Karen landed in Shannon to be greeted by the Tánaiste, where he and Simon Coveney discussed Brexit in detail.

Vice-president Pence told the Tánaiste that he values the Good Friday agreement and the US’s involvement in securing it – and that it needs to be protected when the UK leaves the EU.

For the duration of their visit, the Vice President and his family will be staying at the Trump resort in Doonbeg, where they have family connections.

Tonight, the Pences are to hold a private family dinner in Morrissey’s, which is run by his distant relative Hugh McNally.
