Irish Open Begins In Lahinch As Celebrities Arrive For Pro-Am Event

Thousands of people,including some well-known faces, are beginning to make their way to Lahinch this morning, as the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open gets underway.

The biggest event in the Irish golfing calendar kicks off this morning, with celebrities including Niall Horan, Brian McFadden and Clare hurler Shane O’Donnell joining the professionals for the Pro-Am charity event.

The main tournament action tuns from tomorrow through to Sunday, with plenty of activity in the centre of Lahinch too.

Meanwhile, Irish Water is urging those in Lahinch this week to ‘Think Before They Flush’ to help protect West Clare’s marine environment.

It’s estimated the Irish Open will generate additional water demand of about 100 cubic metres per day – enough to make more than 1.2 million cups of tea.

Irish Water experts have been working with Clare County Council and the event organisers to ensure the infrastructure is in place to handle this additional load.
