A North Clare psychiatrist says the disruption of regular life and work during the COVID-19 outbreak has led to some people relapsing in terms of their mental health.

It’s after a new survey showed that there has been an increase in those referred to mental health services over recent months.

The survey of almost 200 consultant psychiatrists highlighted an initial lull in referrals as the pandemic took hold, followed by an alarming increase in those needing professional help.

Spanish Point based Consultant Psychiatrist and past President of the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland Dr John Hillery, says the findings aren’t entirely unexpected.
