Half Of Midwest Homeless In Emergency Accommodation For More Than Six Months

Half of homeless people in the Midwest have been living in emergency accommodation for more than six months.

The Department of Housing has released its quarterly report, which also shows that more than 100 people in Clare and Limerick have exited homelessness in the first half of the year.

According to the latest figures, the number of homeless adults in Clare increased by 4 between May and June, to 62.

They’re among 291 across the Midwest who had no permanent home that month, while there were 78 children in the region in the same position.

The Department of Housing’s quarterly report also shows that 138 people across Clare and Limerick were living in emergency accommodation in hotels, hostels or B&Bs for more than 6 months.

This represents 49% of all homeless people in the Midwest.

109 individuals and families have exited homelessness in this region in the first half of this year, higher than all regions with the exception of Dublin and the South-West, which includes Cork.
