Government To Cover Costs Of Trump And Pence Visits

The Justice Minister says the government will now cover the security costs associated with the visits to Clare of President Donald Trump, and Vice President Mike Pence.

Unitl now, the government’s stance was that both operations would have to be funded from within the Garda’s existing budget.

However, Minister Charlie Flanagan says that now won’t be the case.

He has stated that the cost of policing the visit of President Trump was under 12 million, including €7.5 million in Garda overtime, and that around 3 million was spent on the visit of Vice President Pence.
