Fáilte Ireland says the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Lahinch has already surpassed expectations.

A global audience of a half a billion people are tuning in to see images of the North Clare village broadcast to every corner of the world, ahead of an expected sell-out weekend.

The weather may have taken a slight turn for the worst in Lahinch today, but it’s doing little to dampen the spirits of the droves of people packing into the village.

Thousands are there once again today, ahead of an expected sold-out weekend of action at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

While those who are sportingly inclined are relishing in the opportunity to watch the likes of Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington, it’s also providing visitors with a chance to experience what Clare has to offer.

Business Development Manager with Fáilte Ireland Martin Donnelly says the impact of this advertisement for Clare can’t be understated.

CEO of Clare County Council Pat Dowling agrees – he hopes this sends out a message to the world that Clare is open for business.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the world’s media is focused on a Clare golf course, after the visit of US President Donald Trump to his Doonbeg resort last month.

It’s hoped now that Clare can be marketed as a premier golfing destination – and Mayor of Clare Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe says this week is an even bigger boost than the Trump visit.
