“Excellent” Water Quality At Clare Bathing Areas – EPA Report

The Environmental Protection Agency says water quality at 12 bathing areas in Clare remains extremely high.

Tests carried out at Ballyalla, Ballycuggeran, Bishopsquarter, Cappagh Pier, Fanore, Kilkee, Lahinch, Mountshannon, Seafield – Quilty, Spanish Point, White Strand – Doonbeg and White Strand – Miltown Malbay all once again returned excellent results.

The water quality at 147 beaches was tested for the EPA’s 2019 report, with 95 per cent found to meet minimum standards.

Swimmers will no longer be allowed into the water at Dublin’s Merrion Strand, after it was found to be of poor standard for the fifth successive year, which means it’s now the first to be declassified as a bathing spot under law.

Water at Ballyloughnane and Clifden beaches in Galway, Portrane Beach in Co. Dublin and Lilliput at Lough Ennell in Co. Westmeath was also found to be poor this year.
