ESB Considering Oil Storage Option For Moneypoint – Report

The ESB is considering an expansion of oil storage facilities at Moneypoint Power Station in West Clare.

While the plant already has the capacity to hold some oil reserves, The Irish Independent reports that the ESB has issued a notice stating that these could be greatly expanded

The company reportedly has plans to provide capacity for 26 million litres of oil across Moneypoint and at a gas fired station in Corby in England.

The burning of coal for power generation is to cease at Moneypoint by 2025, but the plant has been operating well below capacity in recent times and the ESB has yet to make a decision on the nature of future operations there.
