Ennis could be a university town by September 2021.
It’s been confirmed LIT’s joint application with Athlone IT to become a technological university has been submitted to the government.
LIT’s campus on Bindon Street, one of six campuses under the institution’s umbrella, will become a part of the TU if it comes to fruition.

The new Technological University is expected to comprise a student population of up to 15,000 and approximately 1,200 staff across six campuses including Ennis.
President of LIT, Professor Vincent Cunnane, says this is a major step forward for the college.
