An Ennis autism activist is asking people to open up their minds and be more tolerant and accepting of those on the spectrum this month.

April marks Autism Awareness Month, while it’s also World Autism Day today, with both occasions aiming to create more awareness around the disorder.

It’s also a challenging time for families of people with autism now, with COVID-19 restrictions disrupting their routines, which can be a trigger for some.

Meanwhile, the charity As I Am says it is facing a funding shortfall of nearly €300,000 due to the crisis, which will impact how it can assist families in these situations.

Gearóid Mannion of Ennis Voices for Autism has been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall that today is a day to focus on the positives and play your part in making a difference to families living with autism.
