A man who died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Lahinch yesterday is the father of one of the two boys who lost his life in a double drowning tragedy on the outskirts of Ennis.

Fran Harding, who was aged in his 40’s, was the father of 15-year-old Shay Harding, who died alongside his friend Jack Kenneally in a disused quarry in May 2018.

Mr. Harding got into difficulty while swimming at Lahinch shortly before 11 o’clock yesterday morning, and the alarm was quickly raised.

Several surfers began a search of the area, while the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, and the Doolin and Kilkee units of the Irish Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene.

Mr Harding was found after a short time, and was flown to University Hospital Limerick, where he was later pronounced dead.
