Dooley Calls For Sports Hall Funding For Ennis Primary School

Clare’s Fianna Fail Senator has called on the Department of Education to ‘think outside the box’ to provide a sport hall to an Ennis primary school.

Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg, which has over 480 pupils, had been allocated €3 million in funding for seven classrooms and other accommodation last year.

However, as of yet, there is no agreement in place for a gym facility or an assembly hall to cater for students.

The Department of Education say it is not possible to fund a PE hall or general purpose room under the additional school accommodation scheme and has been advised to apply for further capital support.

Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Timmy Dooley says a lack of facilities could have a detrimental effect on pupils at the school.
