Clare TD Says More Consultation With Travelling Community Needed To Combat Homelessness

Clare’s Sinn Fein TD believes more consultation with the Travelling community is needed to ensure an adequate accommodation programme can be operational in this county.

It’s believed as many as half of the approximately 70 people identifying as homeless in Clare are from the Travelling community, which is as much as three times higher than the national average.

The local authority has previously told Clare FM that it spent more than 1 million euro on traveller accommodation schemes last year, following concerns about the setup of illegal encampments in the county.
