A Clare Government TD has described the Green Party leader’s proposals on car sharing in rural communities as being “off the wall”.
Joe Carey says that Eamon Ryan’s claims that villages with 300 families could voluntarily restrict themselves to 30 cars per village and share transport needs, demonstrate a severe disconnect from reality.
Deputy Carey, who’s Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development, has acknowledged the need to move to a low carbon society, saying carpooling is an idea that certainly has it’s merits.
