Calls For Taskforce To Be Set Up To Tackle Illegal Encampments In Clare

Calls are being made in Clare for the immediate establishment of a taskforce to deal with illegal encampments in and around the county town.

Clarecastle Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy has proposed the move, saying a multi-agency approach is needed by groups including the Gardaí, the HSE, Tusla and the Department of Education, to address health and safety and welfare issues.

The most recent example is an encampment at the Skehanagh roundabout, where up to 25 caravans illegally parked, which led to concern for the safety of children living there, playing near a busy road.
