The Bishop of Killaloe is urging the people of Clare to extend the hand of welcome to asylum seekers this Christmas.

Bishop Fintan Monahan has issued the message in his annual Christmas blessing, in which he is expressing concern about “resistance” to asylum seekers in some quarters of society.

A new direct provision centre is to open shortly in Ennis, on top of the ones in Knockalisheen and Lisdoonvarna which have been in operation for quite a while.
