The next generation of mobile phone technology is coming to Clare, against the wishes of Clare County Councillors.

Eir has announced plans to rollout its 5G network in Ennis before the end of 2019.

It offers faster connection speeds to those with compatible phones, but has so far only been rolled out in cities by a small number of networks.

In June, Clare County Council adopted a motion in which local representatives formally opposed the adoption of 5G technology on health grounds, though the Minister wrote to the council saying there’s “insufficient evidence”.

Ballybeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy, who put down that motion, isn’t pleased with the development.
