A Clare Fianna Fáil General Election hopeful is withdrawing from the race, and is expressing anger at the selection policy handed down by Headquarters ahead of their convention next week.

Councillor Cathal Crowe had been hoping to represent the party in the next General Election, but he’s now withdrawing after members were told that they would be selecting one West Clare candidate, and another from East Clare.

That would have put the South-East Clare representative against TD Timmy Dooley, with John Hillary and Rita McInerney contesting the other spot on the Fianna Fáil ticket.

Clare FM now understands that Councillor Crowe is withdrawing from the race, but that he will not run as an Independent.
