A man has been arrested and a suspected firearm has been seized in Parteen.
Shortly before midnight last night, Gardaí from Mayorstone Park Garda Station in Limerick attempted to stop a car in the Ballynanty area of Limerick.
The car was then driven at high speed through a number of housing estates and a chase ensued, with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit.
During the operation, an object was thrown from the car and which was later recovered and discovered to be a suspected firearm with a number of rounds of amunition.
The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, eventually stopped in Parteen and was arrested by Gardaí.
He was brought to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30 Offences Against the Station Act, 1939.
