Garda Commissioner Offers Reassurances Over Future Of Policing In Clare

The Garda Commissioner is reassuring that a locally responsive policing service will remain in place in Clare into the future.

Drew Harris was responding to a question from Clare’s Senator Martin Conway at a Justice Committee Meeting, about the possible amalgamation of the Clare and Galway Divisions.

But Commissioner Harris has once again failed to rule this out and has told the Justice Committee that the aim of combining divisions is to improve policing, rather than the opposite.

Commissioner Harris has also committed to attending a meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee, saying it provides an opportunity to to explain the new divisional policing model.

Senator Martin Conway has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that this will provide the opportunity for members to make a case against combining the Clare and Galway divisions.
