Clare Homes Targeted By Burglars While They Were Occupied

Gardaí are investigating a series of “traumatic” incidents in Clare last week, where burglars gained entry to the homes of women, while they were in the property.

In one of the cases, a man was arrested shortly after the incident and has appeared before the courts.

In the past week, three incident were reported in Clare, after men gained entry to the homes of women while they were in the property.

On Thursday afternoon, a woman living in Lislanahan, Kilkee heard a noise in the back room of her house and when she went to investigate was confronted by two men dressed in black, wearing hoods.

They forced her to hand over a sum of money and made their escape.

In a separate incident, at around 10pm on Monday, April 15th, a man knocked on the front door of a woman’s home in the Ballyduffmore area of Kilnamona.

When no-one answered, he went around to the back of the house and kicked in the locked back door, to gain entry.

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Tríona O’Rourke outlines what happened next.

In a third incident, in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, a woman living on Main Street in Killaloe awoke to a loud noise and discovered a man in her hallway holding a playstation and TV.

He dropped the items and made his escape.
