12 Safety Tips For Christmas

1. Drink alcohol responsibly. Wherever the celebration is on, everyone should promote safe behaviour.
2. Plan your night out, tell someone where you are going and when you’ll be back.
3. Never walk home alone – there is safety in numbers and if you have no other option, walk in well-lit areas.
4. Take care when carrying your handbag and phone in crowded areas.
5. Keep handbags zipped and don’t put your wallet in your back pocket.
6. Only take out as much money as you need at ATMs and always cover your PIN and call Gardaí if you believe the machine has been compromised.
7. Take care of your Christmas shopping and never leave it unattended and especially not on view inside your car.
8. Park your car in secure and well-lit areas and make sure it is locked.
9. Avoid burglaries at Christmas – secure all doors and windows and use your alarm.
10. Don’t leave presents on view from the outside of your house.
11. If you are expecting deliveries, always make sure someone is there to collect it or arrange for a trusted neighbour to take it in.
12. If you are going away for Christmas, make your home look like it is occupied – leave a light on and get a friend or family member to check on your property.
