It's claimed public representatives are finding it difficult to access information on applicants for various council schemes, including people on Clare's Housing List. 

The Local Authority says while the Data Protection Act allows for disclosure of personal data in certain cases, it has an obligation under law to protect people's privacy and that certain information cannot be disclosed. 

However, Independent Miltown Malbay Councillor Christy Curtin believes the legislation is too strict.
