Councillor Claims Social Housing Maintenance Scheme Is Long Overdue

The Chair of Clare’s Housing Committee insists a major maintenance programme of the county’s social housing stock is long overdue.

The local authority has drawn down a loan of €10 million over five years, to bring the homes in their charge up to standard.

A report from the National Oversight and Audit Commission shows that there’s a vacancy rate of 3.84% in Clare’s social housing – while it costs just under €800 per home on average to repair and maintain a home post-vacancy.
