Just under 670 thousand euro in government funding was spent by Clare County Council on Traveller accommodation last year.

That’s 35 thousand more than they had been allocated.

This development marks a significant increase in spending on Traveller accommodation by Clare County Council.

In 2017, the Council drew down only a quarter of the €169,000 it had been allocated by government, while a year later it availed of just €13,000, despite being allocated over €850,000.

The Council says its drawdown of funding for Traveller accommodation was based on three claims submitted to the Department of Local Government.

Two of the claims related to works to upgrade all Traveller specific accommodation in the County to ensure compliance with minimum standards.
