Clare County Council has identified 155 vacant houses around the county as it attempts to address the social housing shortage here.
It comes as a call has been made on the local authority to purchase as many vacant sites as possible to begin driving down waiting lists here, where almost 2,500 are waiting on a council home.
Compulsory purchase orders could not be issued but where possible, negotiations with owners will be held, with a view to acquiring them.
